Hawkesbury River-Mouth Walk

The Hawkesbury River-Mouth Walk is a three-day, three-night escape that’s the Goldilocks of walks, designed to be unhurried, immersive, and beautifully balanced, with time to swim, sail and unwind.

This lodge-based walk is for people who are curious about spending time in nature, but don’t feel the need to push themselves or perform in it. The pace is gentle, the group is small, and there is space to pause, adjust, and settle into the rhythm of the coast.

Wander through wildflowers to a secluded beach for sunset snacks and a swim; traverse the most scenic sections of the Bouddi Coastal Walk; sail the Hawkesbury River to explore hidden bays; and finish with a cliff-top walk high above the river-mouth. All with enough downtime to enjoy the beach, a spa treatment or restorative yoga — and all just 90 minutes from Sydney.

This pack-free walk is about enjoying being immersed in nature and has been specifically designed with shorter walks that you don’t need to train intensively for (though a decent level of fitness will help you enjoy it more). The pace is gentle, with three walks under two hours, and one slightly longer day around three hours. There’s more downhill than up, with most walks starting high on a ridge-line and ending at sea-level.

Day 1 (Sunday) – Wildflower Wander
Arrive mid-afternoon and ease into your journey with a guided coastal walk among wildflowers and scenic lookouts. Continue down to a secluded beach where there’s time to swim, relax and watch the sun begin to set. As evening falls, transfer back for dinner at your leisure.
Walking distance ~ 3km

Day 2 (Monday) – Best of Bouddi Coastal Walk
This morning, set out along forested trails and coastal ridgelines, weaving through towering trees until you join the Bouddi Coastal Walk. Follow the path across golden sands and along the dramatic shoreline. End your hike with a relaxed picnic lunch with sweeping ocean views. This afternoon is at leisure, remain on the beach soaking up the sun or perhaps return for an afternoon spa treatment or restorative yoga.
Walking distance ~ 8.5km

Day 3 (Tuesday) – Sailing to Hidden Bays
After breakfast, descend through a bellbird-filled forest to meet your yacht, then set sail for a half-day journey along the Hawkesbury River, soaking up the scenery as you glide between hidden bays and rugged headlands.
Walking distance ~ 3.2km

Day 4 (Wednesday) – River-Mouth Finale
On your last morning after checking out, walk from Pearl Beach to Patonga along one of the region’s most scenic coastal tracks, with sweeping river mouth views along the way. Finish with a relaxed farewell lunch by the water. You’ll be transferred back by around 2pm for your drive home.
